Assumption

How many people do things assuming everyone else does them, when in fact everyone’s assuming to start with? [link]
Look at any societal norm. Why is it a norm? Is it really the way things are, or is it just that everyone’s assuming the same thing at once?
Since when is it important to own a house? Or to get married? Why are straight relationships (even be they one night stands or illicit affairs) regarded as more “pure” than homosexual relationships? Why should we assume that school is the best way to get educated? Or that a college education improves your value as a person?
What if we’re believing all these things because we’re assuming that someone else has the answers, when in fact everyone’s assuming everything about everyone else? What, in fact, are the norms?
