We Are The Normal

Something funny is happening to the population of Earth. And not funny in the same way that watching cyclists ride into things is funny – and slightly satisfying. I base this claim on my family. My younger brother is most definitely not a nerd. He’s always been one of the cool kids, and had far more social skills than I ever did. While I was mashing ‘have sex with lady’ commands to Leisure...

Geek kind as we know it is coming to an end!

Bah, not really, far from it in fact. I do apologise for the fear mongering back there. I needed your attention. And that shocking line isn’t far off our main topic anyway. So i don’t even feel bad at having deceived you. No, the topic of discussion today is more important, and even more terrifying. Geeks are not headed towards an abrupt end, quite the contrary. I predict, geeks will roam...

Born to Geek

I haven’t always been a geek. There was one time many years ago when I was into things like rock climbing and kayaking. In fact, I spent the better part of a year back in 2003 as an outdoor education tutor at a school camp destination. I remember fondly running up the highest peaks in the Lake District for fun on Saturday mornings. Those were the days – the days when I could see my own little...

Where have all the science nerds gone?

Mike from Ionian Enchantment emailed me a few weeks ago to ask where all the science nerds are, and to be honest – I hung out with the cheerleaders at school, I’m a complete noob when it comes to all things nerdy, so I couldn’t actually answer him. Other than listing a few sciency-type personal blogs that I read from time to time [like this one] I didn’t know where to start...

New Facebook Layout

Facebook launched their new layout in stages across the world.  Whilst many have ridiculed the change, which is often the case when people face change, many have also praised the change.  Myself being one of them. I believe the latest change is a case of form follows function, and clearly shows that Facebook are moving more towards making the site easier and more accessible.  With the new changes,...

The Apple iPad

Steve Jobs, in his less than appropriate dress sense (loose jeans and the same polo neck jersey), made the announcement yesterday for Apple’s new tablet computer, the stupidly named “iPad”.  First up, what on earth were they thinking?  Did they not think that iPad can directly be related to the “sanitary pad”?  Already, not even 24 hours after the announce, twitter,...

Flash not required on YouTube?

This week Google added the ability for users to watch videos on YouTube without having to have Flash installed.  YouTube now supports HTML5 in it’s Chrome browser and the Apple Safari browser. The HTML5 option is offered through the it’s BETA program and is an opt-in facility.  You can head on over to http://www.youtube.com/html5 if you would like to join the BETA program.  It replaces...

Potential

If you were waiting for the continuation from my last post. I am afraid you will have to wait a little while longer. Today I need to vent about this topic. I want your opinions… When you look at a piece of vacant land that is strategically positioned on a hilltop overlooking the ocean you see potential. Right? If you don’t, I don’t really give a damn cause it is what I see. This is...
